We, as students on the path of personal ascension, have been speaking among ourselves lately about a topic that feels vital to our progress.
The topic is honesty with self.
Slowly, very slowly it seems at times, we’re coming to understand that ascension is not something to be achieved.
The mind is programmed with a mental, left brain perspective.
So, to some degree or another, all of us on the ascension path are living with a mental perception of having to achieve something, that there is something to accomplish.
Ascension is not something to be achieved—like getting a college degree or moving up the ranks within an organisation.
The ascension path is a serious study and one of the basic tenets is that it is the heart that will guide us as we clear out the dross. And that energy raises itself naturally. That if we choose to rise to a higher version of ourselves and continue to choose this with the proper focus, we will experience it.
This way of being is entirely new on many levels for all of us. There’s a lot to learn.
Returning to the topic of achieving, part of the game our minds play if we are not vigilant is that we want to ‘prove’ (falsely at times) to ourselves and to our teachers that we ‘get it.’ That we understand, and that yes, this is how we’re living.
There is at times an overeagerness to be a good student. There are times we’re very vocal about understanding something that has been taught, and then in the next moment, we fall right back into the rabbit hole and behave in the same mental way we have in the past.
It’s as if we want to convince ourselves and our teachers, (like a little kid bragging on the playground, ‘Look at me!) that we understand…..we understand the teachings and we understand what we have to do. (‘Have to’s’ and ‘should’s’ don’t work by the way).
On some level, and this may play out subtly, we feel like we have something to prove.
What we’re coming to understand is that, first and foremost, it’s about honesty with self.
Yes we know that theoretically, we can create a new reality in an instant. We can ‘drop’ something that is not beneficial to us in one breath.
The truth is that we’re learning what this means practically.
At times we’re not honest with ourselves, telling ourselves that we’re already ‘there,’ that this is what we’re doing, when it’s actually not true.
We call this spiritual mind.
Mind has the ability to mimic consciousness. BIG trap on the path of personal ascension. The program is brilliant in the subtlety of this manipulation.
So even while we say that we want to expand (and in our hearts we do) the mental program is such that there are times that we are convinced that we’re expanding, when in actuality, we’re not. We call this ‘looping.’
Taking the time to go into stillness and contemplate self is crucial. So is being vigilant about emotions that come up when we interact with others. When we are given a task, how do we approach it? What sort of reality are we creating for ourselves in each moment? Do we feel good or do we feel stressed? Are we ‘trying’ to be something?
These are the questions we need to be asking ourselves rather than convincing ourselves that we’re already ‘there.’
I’ve written previously about ascended life, with love and patience, inviting us to step into higher versions of ourselves. How can we do that if we are convincing ourselves that we’re already there?
Honesty with self is vital.
There seems to be confusion about, on the one hand, knowing that we can ‘drop’ a pattern that does not serve us in an instant, and on the other hand, understanding that the program we are running is brilliant and has evolved with us ‘over time’ to fully lock us into this matrix.
We may see a destructive pattern playing out and in that moment, we may clearly understand what is happening.
At that point, (or the next day) the programming simply switches tactics and enters our field from another direction. The result often is that we play out the same pattern again. The programming can manifest overtly, easily seen, or with great subtlety, and thus more difficult to detect.
An element of the programming is a belief system that convinces us that we are ‘getting it’ when we actually are not.
Being honest with ourselves is not the same as ‘beating ourselves up.’
We’ve written about gentleness and kindness.
This is not about ‘have to’s or should’s.
For those of us who have been on this path for a few years now, generally speaking, we know a good number of our fundamental ‘issues.’
The only thing that makes sense, if I can use this expression in a beneficial way, is to ‘put our heads down and do the work.’
By that I mean, fuelled by our passion for ascension, to dedicate ourselves, as a good student would, to diligently observing these patterns in ourselves, and in each moment, simply choosing again.
Over and over and over again.
We don’t have to be discouraged to see that the patterns are still there. It’s a masterful program that has been installed.
We just ‘do the work.’ We continue to focus on observing the patterning and each time we see it, making another choice.
There will come a point, no matter how ‘long’ it seems to take from a linear perspective, when the programming just does not have anything to ‘stick to.’
And hopefully, we can see the difference between choosing the gentle way, as we see these things in ourselves, and complacency. For they are two very different things.
Complacency is not doing the work. Gentleness with self is what we embody while we are doing the work.
A very simple truth shared by ascended life, helpful to us in these moments:
‘it is not easy. It is not difficult. It just is.’
Another great podcast topic. The list continues to grow….
